Gene

Gene was 17 years old when he went into the military. “I was just a kid- I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I certainly didn’t dream of being homeless and wanting to sleep in the woods later in my life.” Gene says he suffers from PTSD and some severe abuse as a child. “The Veteran’s Administration hasn’t helped me much” says Gene, who is representative of Veterans as 20%-25% of the entire homeless population now.
Gene sleep in the woods away from the city 365 nights out of the year, including the cold winters in NH. “I guess it’s my choice, but I’m not sure how much of a choice it is with PTSD. It’s not what I wanted to happen.”
